Applications should be emailed to [email protected]. Any incomplete applications may delay the process. Once the application is received and reviewed, we will contact you for an interview provided there are suites available. The interview process involves a tour of the facilities and meeting with a housing employee. Please feel free to contact us should you wish to check on the status of your application. Please allow a minimum of one hour for the interview, and 24 – 72 hours for a response regarding your application once the interview is completed.
You will be welcomed by one of our friendly staff who will walk you through the process. Due to the 1010 Centre being a sober living community, please be prepared to complete a urine drug test when you arrive for move-in. Staff are trained and certified to administer this test. We suggest that you drink a couple of glasses of water one hour prior to your move-in time. Once the test is completed and results are negative, Resident Engagement staff will complete their paperwork with you. You will then meet with Property Management to complete the Residential Services Agreement and do a walk-through of your suite. Mail is delivered by Canada Post to the lobby mailboxes, so please ensure that you advise Canada Post of your new address in advance. All belongings must complete a heat treatment on move-in day. You are then free to move in your belongings after heat treatment has been completed. The suites are furnished; however, residents are responsible for their own bedding, towels and kitchenware, as well as food.
Upon move-in, residents will be assigned a Resident Engagement worker who will meet with them at a time and a day that works with their schedule. These meetings are a requirement of our licensing and are not optional. These meetings are tailored to fit the needs of the residents and can vary from 10 minutes to up to an hour, depending on what residents would like to discuss. For those residents who are coping well, it's an opportunity for a friendly chat. For those residents who may be struggling with a variety of issues, it's an opportunity to discuss concerns, work on solutions, and receive support and encouragement.
All applicants must pass a urine drug test on move-in day. Those that test positive for drugs and alcohol will not be allowed to move into the building on that day. Applicants may request to move in after they have demonstrated an ability to live a clean and sober lifestyle. After move-in, urine drug tests will be administered based on behaviours that indicate substance use or upon return from being away from the building for an extended period of time.
We are committed to providing a sober and drug-free community for all of our residents. Residents that are noticeably under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol may be denied entry into the building until they are sober. Upon re-entry into the building, the resident will be required to meet with their Resident Engagement staff to complete a Resident Care Plan.
A Resident Care Plan (RCP) is a tool used to provide supports needed where there has been a breach of the House Guidelines or Residential Service Agreement. The resident will meet with Resident Engagement staff to dscuss the breach and how the resident can resolve the issue and maintain housing in the 1010 Centre.
No, there is no curfew and residents are free to come and go as they please.
One of our licensing requirements is that we know who is in the building in a 24-hour period. If you would like to go away, whether it's overnight or for longer, please contact one of the Resident Engagement team to complete an "Away Slip" to record your absence.
As this is a low-income building, we ask that students who are interested in living at the 1010 Centre be independent adults and that their source of income is coming either from student loans, grants or employment. Those students who are being financially supported by their parents are not eligible for residency.
We do not offer couples housing. Residents may have guests visit from 8am – midnight each day, and overnight guests are welcome to stay with prior approval.
